Questions About Multivariable Calculus

Is there an AP Exam for Multivariable Calculus?

No. College Board does not currently offer an AP Multivariable Calculus course or exam. AP Calculus BC is the highest calculus course currently offered within the AP program.

Do I need AP Calculus BC before taking this course?

At Franklin Academy, students should complete AP Calculus BC with an A or B before enrolling.

This preparation is important because Multivariable Calculus assumes fluency with differentiation, integration, parametric equations, polar coordinates, and other single-variable calculus concepts.

Why take Multivariable Calculus in high school?

Students who complete AP Calculus BC early can continue advancing rather than repeating material. The course introduces mathematics commonly used in engineering, physics, computer science, applied mathematics, economics, and other quantitative university programs.

What is the Personalized Project Reference?

The Personalized Project Reference, or PPR, is an outline based on the student’s course project research. Students submit it through the AP Digital Portfolio before the exam and receive a printed copy for reference during the speaking portion.

Will I receive high school credit for taking this course?

Yes. Franklin Academy is a WASC-accredited private school. Upon completion of the course, Franklin Academy issues an official transcript with the WASC seal. Students may choose to transfer credits to their school of record or submit the Franklin Academy transcript as part of their college application materials.
