Shaping How Students Think, Not Just What They Know
Elementary School Academics
At Franklin Academy, we believe that the elementary years (Grades 1–5) are the most critical window for shaping a child’s cognitive framework. Our academic philosophy is not built on rote memorization or simply passing standardized tests. Instead, we are dedicated to cultivating intellectual curiosity, cognitive flexibility, and a deep-seated love for learning. By blending rigorous academic standards with a highly supportive environment, we teach our students how to learn, ensuring they are fully prepared for the complex challenges of Middle School, High School, and beyond.
A Multidimensional Approach to Learning
Education at Franklin Academy is deeply interconnected. We do not view subjects as isolated silos; rather, we teach students to see the relationships between different disciplines. Our pedagogy rests on three core pillars:
1. Active Inquiry:
2. Global Citizenship:
3. Growth Mindset:
Cognitive Flexibility Through Language
Franklin Academy is incredibly proud of our signature Trilingual Immersion model (English, Mandarin, and Spanish). However, our goal is much larger than simply teaching children to speak foreign languages.
Extensive research shows that early multilingual education fundamentally alters brain development, enhancing a child’s executive function, problem-solving skills, and ability to multitask.
From Learning to Utilizing:
In the early grades, the focus is on language acquisition. As students progress through the elementary division, the pedagogy shifts. Languages become tools rather than just subjects. Students begin to learn science, math, and history through the lenses of English, Mandarin, and Spanish, resulting in true, native-level cognitive fluency and a profound appreciation for different cultural frameworks.
Fostering Future Innovators
Our approach to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) is rooted in experiential, hands-on discovery. We believe that young minds learn best when they are actively engaged in the scientific process.
Conceptual Mathematics:
Rather than drilling formulas, our math methodology focuses on spatial reasoning and conceptual understanding. We ask students to explain their logical processes and prove their answers, building a resilient, analytical mindset.
Lab-Based Science:
Character, Creativity, and Wellness
True academic excellence cannot exist without emotional and physical well-being. Franklin Academy is deeply committed to educating the “whole child.”
