Chinese New Year 2027

Chinese New Year 2027 will be celebrated on Friday, February 5, 2027, at Franklin Academy as part of our Classroom Activities program. Through engaging, age-appropriate lessons and hands-on activities, students will explore the history, traditions, and cultural significance of one of the world’s most celebrated holidays.

At Franklin Academy, we believe cultural education helps students develop curiosity, empathy, and respect for people from diverse backgrounds. Chinese New Year 2027 provides an opportunity for students to learn about the customs, symbols, and values associated with this vibrant celebration while gaining a deeper appreciation for Chinese culture and traditions.

What Is Chinese New Year?

Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year or Spring Festival, is one of the most important traditional holidays celebrated in China and by Chinese communities around the world. The holiday marks the beginning of a new year according to the lunar calendar and is a time for family reunions, gratitude, new beginnings, and hopes for a prosperous year ahead.

The celebration has a history spanning thousands of years and is rich with traditions that symbolize good fortune, happiness, health, and success. Families often gather for festive meals, decorate their homes with red lanterns and banners, exchange red envelopes (hongbao), watch lion and dragon dances, and enjoy fireworks as they welcome the new year.

Each Lunar New Year is associated with one of the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac, adding another unique tradition that students often enjoy learning about.
