Research & Innovation Program

Research & Innovation Program

An Exclusive Summer Research Program with University-Affiliated Professors

The Research & Innovation Program is a premier summer research program for high school students seeking meaningful research opportunities in STEM. This unique hybrid experience allows students to collaborate directly with university-affiliated professors and researchers—many of whom are based at top institutions like UCLA, UCI, UCR, and Caltech—on real research projects within active lab settings.

Why Choose This Summer Research Program?

Mentorship with Research Faculty: Work 1-on-1 or in small groups with university-affiliated professors and research teams.

Hands-On Research Experience: Spend time in professional labs learning practical research skills.

Hybrid Structure: Begin with a virtual research foundation, then transition to in-person lab work.

College-Ready Preparation: Strengthen applications with academic credentials and real-world experience.

This program is ideal for students who want authentic exposure to academic research in a supportive, mentored environment.

Program Structure

Phase 1: Virtual Research Training (Weeks 1–3)

Students begin with intensive online instruction in:

  • Scientific research design and critical thinking
  • Literature reviews and academic writing
  • Data collection, analysis, and visualization
  • Ethics in research and proposal development

Phase 2: In-Person Research Experience (Weeks 4–8)

In the second half of the program, students join an individual professor’s lab team (primarily based at UCLA, UCI, or UCR) for a deep dive into ongoing research projects. Activities include:

  • Collaborating with professors, graduate students, and other mentees
  • Gaining hands-on lab experience using advanced scientific tools
  • Participating in weekly lab meetings, discussions, and progress check-ins
  • Preparing and delivering a final research presentation

A Unique Path to Real Research Opportunities

Unlike many high school programs, this experience gives students direct access to university research environments—not through institutional collaboration, but through faculty mentorships built on academic trust and passion for discovery. This is one of the most direct, impactful research opportunities available to pre-college students.

What Students Gain

Upon completing this summer research program, participants will:

Understand the research process from concept to execution

Complete a faculty-guided research project at a university lab
Learn how to present academic findings professionally
Receive a certificate of completion
Be eligible for strong letters of recommendation from research mentors
Enhance their competitiveness for colleges, internships, and STEM awards
