Forging Intellectual Independence

Middle School

Welcome to the Grades 6-8 program at Franklin Academy, recognized as a premier private middle school in Orange County, CA (Irvine). These transitional years are a period of profound intellectual and personal transformation. As students transition from the foundational learning of our Elementary division, they step into a world of rigorous critical thinking, complex problem-solving, and advanced academic discourse. Our curriculum is specifically designed to challenge students to take ownership of their education, transforming them into independent scholars fully prepared for the elite demands of our High School.

Fostering Middle School Leadership

Developing the Whole Scholar

Grades 6–8 are is about more than just academic acceleration; it is about discovering who you are and how you lead.

Self-Advocacy:

We transition students from teacher-led instruction to student-driven inquiry. Middle schoolers are taught how to manage their time, advocate for their learning needs, and collaborate effectively in group laboratory settings.

Global Perspectives:

Through our trilingual curriculum and World History courses, students learn to analyze global power structures and cultural shifts, preparing them to be empathetic, informed global citizens.

Extracurricular Exploration:

Early adolescents have expanded access to competitive robotics, debate, advanced visual arts, and the Global Philanthropy Leadership (GPL) program, allowing them to build a robust portfolio of interests before entering high school.

A Day in the Life of Middle School

Structured for Focus and Academic Stamina

To support the increased cognitive demands of our curriculum, the daily schedule is strategically designed to provide deep, uninterrupted academic blocks interspersed with vital opportunities to recharge.

Below is a typical daily schedule for our students (8:00 AM – 3:45 PM):

08:00 AM – 08:30 AM | Targeted Reading Block

Students begin the day with a focused 30-minute reading period. Depending on the grade level, this block is dedicated to advanced Spanish Reading or integrated English/Science Reading to set an academic tone for the morning.

Core Academic Blocks (50 Minutes Each)

Intensive subjects such as Mathematics, Comprehensive Science, Spanish Immersion, and Mandarin Chinese are taught in 50-minute blocks. This extended duration allows for complex laboratory work, deep literary analysis, and sustained language practice.

Recharge Intervals (10 Minutes)

Following each intensive 50-minute academic block, students receive a 10-minute recess. These short breaks are critical for preventing cognitive fatigue and allowing students to transition smoothly between distinct subjects like Math and Language Arts.

11:20 AM – 12:00 PM | Lunch & Socialization

A 40-minute lunch period provides students with time to nourish themselves and build strong social bonds with their peers.

02:00 PM – 03:25 PM | Electives & Physical Education

Every afternoon, students engage in 50 minutes of Elective courses followed by 35 minutes of Physical Education (PE) to ensure a healthy balance between intellectual pursuit and physical well-being.

03:25 PM – 03:45 PM | Character Building & Dismissal

We conclude the day with a 20-minute Character Building session, allowing students to reflect on leadership, accountability, and the school’s core values before heading home.
